Vintage Wooden 7 Drawer Tool Cabinet / Chest - probably made by Emir of Ashford. Outer casework appears to be mahogany, drawers are beech with ply bottoms. There are 5 half width drawers and 2 full width drawers. The top part of the case lifts up with a hinge and a friction stay which holds the lid very securely open. This cabinet is very well made with finger joints around the main carcass and the drawers. I cannot find any evidence of a makers mark. But after making comparisons to pictures of similar tool chests online and judging from the configuration and particularly the lower edge detailing on the drawers I think this chest was made by Emir. All the metal work / knobs / corner protectors are as original. Some are quite tarnished but could be refinished. The leather carry handle has been replaced (but still has its original metal fittings and flexible metal core). The original felt linings of the drawers are present, they are in reasonable condition and have been vacuumed and lightly brushed. The box comes with two locks, the top one is Cheney and is a like-for-like replacement of the original which was in poor condition and had lost its key. The wood around this lock has been replaced as the original was too damaged to securely hold the lock in place.

The wood of the case where this lock engages is quite chipped (see photo) but the lock catch holds well. Both locks have one key each. The box closes and locks well. The condition of the woodwork is good with marks of use evident to the drawers and case work, please see photos.

Outer dimensions of the box are. 18" Wide x 8 1/4" Deep (back to front) x 15 3/4 High. Small Drawers are 8" wide x 7" deep (and either 1" or 1 3/4" high inside). Large Drawers are 16 5/8" wide x 7" deep (and either 1" or 3" high inside). Please see pictures for details of item and condition.
