Vintage Emir 7 Drawer Toolmakers Cabinet Engineers Tool Craft Chest with Key. This vintage "Emir" Engineers Toolmakers Chest, has 7 drawers, comprising 5 short and 2 long is in "as found" condition but it's in pretty good shape! The cabinet is made from a mix of woods I think (I'm no expert)? Perhaps oak, mahogany and beech, and as a result has lovely spread of colours, all with a wonderful patina that has built up over the years. The back is veneered plywood which is a little delaminated but it's still doing is job well.

The outer body has good, strong finger joints to the side top and bottom corners. The cabinet has had a working life and it was designed to be used be used.

As a result, there are marks, bumps, scratches, stains and scuffs to the door, body and top of the cabinet. It looks to me like an extra lock was once fitted to the front but it is no longer present. I have tried to show the condition in the pictures. All the drawers slide in and out but they could probably do with a light sand and a way to make them nice and smooth. They all have corner finger joints too.

All of the drawers are sound with no splits and all have solid handles. The drawers all have a baise lining, these would benefit from a clean. The front door fits correctly, and the key works well once positioned correctly.

Like everything, there's a knack but once you've got it you're away. The door slides nicely into the bottom as it should. The leather carrying handle is well attached and secure.

The original "Emir" applied plaque to the front has a fair colour. This cabinet certainly has had a long working life but it still had loads of life left in it. It measures 46 cm (18 inches) wide, 22 cm (8 1/2 inches) deep and stands 29 cm (11 1/2 inches) tall.
